Mental Health Awareness

May is mental health awareness month, but reality is, we should be concerned about this daily, weekly and monthly.

Stop and check on your people. Ask them how they are feeling, ask how they are holding up. We all have some sort of stress at work, but we never know what someone may be going through outside of work as well.

A simple act of kindness can go a long way to changing the mind of someone. Sometimes a smile, wave or a hello, and that's all it takes to change the mindset of someone and possibly change the day in front of them.

How do you feel when you know someone cares about your well-being? My whole day can change based on a simple act of kindness, or someone checking in on me.

I recently participated in a mental health walk at work, and that was 2 of the best hours of the week. Seeing others come together to walk or run a few laps around campus, have some lunch and cake, it made the day brighter for over 300 people.

Don't stop checking on a peer's mental health after May! Always ask how a person is doing, it may change the day or life of a person over that simple act of kindness.
